International House

What is the International House ?

The International House (I-House) living option is a co-ed, multicultural residential living and learning community.  It is designed to promote understanding among its residents from different nations and cultures of the world. This understanding is possible through several different aspects of the program.

Daily interpersonal interaction of the residents from many countries allows for natural growth of understanding and appreciation. Residents are encouraged to participate in many educational activities on international and multicultural topics.  This living experience also prepares residents for career options in a diverse international employment arena. For those students who desire such knowledge and who wish to live in an exciting and different University environment, life in I-House can be a rewarding experience.

What do I-House current and former residents think?

"Overall, my first year at college has been great. The main reason this has been so is due to I-House. Between having a great roommate and being able to participate in a large number of fun events, I also was part of a very close knit community. I have had a wonderful time." -- Aaron from the United States

"Awesome way to experience your first year at MTU." -- Gabriel from Peru

“I enjoy the I-house because it’s learning through diversity.” -- Ryan from India

“I enjoy living in I-House because even though we’re all from different cultures, we are very much the same.” -- Eric from the United States

"I-House was a wonderful opportunity to meet new people from all across the world." -- Samantha from Canada

What does I-House have to offer?

I-House is located on the second floor of West McNair. The cost of room and board includes heat, water, cable TV, and local telephone charges. Living in I-House provides students with several advantages including a 12 month living contract, computer hook-ups, a kitchen for your extra cooking needs, inexpensive laundry facilities, and educational and social activities.

I-House offers a twelve-month living contract, which means you will not have to leave I-House during semester and winter breaks. If you live in I-House during the summer and/or holiday break(s), you will be assessed an additional fee, not included in your I-House contract. During the holiday and semester breaks, dining services are not provided.

This Learning Community also provides a warm and open environment for students from all corners of the world to share their stories, learn from one another and to spread their understanding and positive global perspective to the rest of Michigan Tech.

International House works with International Programs and Services (IPS) to better assist all students. To learn more about IPS, please visit them at International Programs and Services .
